Doug Palmer

As ETTL's On-Site Geotechnical Drilling Coordinator,
Doug Palmer
assesses the condition of (and access to)
drilling sites. He addresses such hindrances as narrow
(or locked) gates, tree barriers and ditches, as well as power
lines and various other utilities, working with ETTL staffers, as
well as clients, to resolve them. He also stakes (clearly marks) drilling
locations for drillers
, and provides precise directions for getting to sites.
He obtains layouts and maps (when available and needed) that were not sent
earlier with the project proposal. During actual drilling, he makes sure
samples are being correctly collected and transported to ETTL labs,
and that all logs are being properly recorded. He also helps train
drilling crews in logging techniques. In concert with ETTL's
Drilling Manager, he handles problems that occur during drilling
operations, and communicates alternativ
e approaches to clients
(such as use of a track rig instead of a truck-mounted rig on
an overly wet site). He assists ETTL Project Managers,
as needed, in matters relating to field operations. And,
in addition to other duties, keeps clients informed
about the status of their jobs.
