| Both the CME-55/300 (left) and the D-50 (right) are remotely controlled. Rig operators don't ride these units. They walk! And because these rigs are mounted on heavily-reinforced-rubber track carriers that use modern hydrostatic drive technology, they can readily traverse mud, rocks, snow, sand, uneven ground, wooded areas, and steep slopes. Which means they are available for geotechnical and environmental drilling operations where truck-mounted rigs would have access problems - though we put them to work in easily entered sites as well. | ![]() |

The track carriers for both the CME-55/300 and D-50 (with their respective rigs) are transported to drilling jobs via truck-drawn trailers. The unit at left being loaded on a trailer is ETTL's Diedrich D-50. Once at the site, after being guided to a drilling point, the rigs are leveled via their remote controller (the CME-55/300 is shown being leveled at right). The leveling system designs of the respective units use four jacks of inverted design to readily and rapidly prepare the rig to have its mast raised and work begun. |
|
| At left, the mast of the CME-55/300 is being raised; and at right, with an auger in place, it is ready for drilling to be begun. Both the CME-55/300 and the D-50 are equipped with 140-lb (ASTM) and 170 lb (TxDOT) sample hammers; and, in addition to a variety of rotary drilling capabilities, both have direct push capabilities. The hydraulic system for drill rig operations is completely disabled automatically for both of these units for safety when their track carrier drive is in operation - and vice versa. |
